Acts 3:6

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

What do I have that could cause a man to rise up and walk? Nothing. What did Peter have that could cause a man to rise up and walk? Nothing. Nothing in himself that is, he did however, have someone else’s power to heal the man with, and as we read through the new testament you see the Power of Jesus used to bring people to a saving faith in God, by whatever way is best for the situation, be it healing, or preaching, or condemning, in each case God’s power is used to bring people to him. The purpose of the healing was to bring God glory and honor, the same purpose of all of the miracles.

Application-I will pray that God will give me the courage to use each opportunity that He gives me to glorify him, and bring those around me closer to him, whatever it might be that he’s calling me to do.

Colossians 3:17

Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

You want an incentive for doing the right thing even when nobody may ever know or notice if you slack off or steal a little here and there or do a slack job? It’s easy to justify these bad behaviors and so many others when we are only doing what we do for ourselves or someone else that we just work for but don’t really like or respect. God gives us an incentive to doing the right thing regardless of the circumstances, in this verse and in 1st Corinthians which says- Therefore whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. The incentive is that we are representing our Lord Jesus all of the time, every action from the biggest to the littlest that we take will bring him either honor or dishonor. So do your best at whatever you do and thank God that he has given you the opportunity and ability to do what it is that you are doing.

Application-This verse is its own application so I will memorize the verse to keep the proper mindset close at hand.

Colossians 3:16

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

How are we supposed to let the word of Christ dwell in us if we don’t continually take it in? Here we are exhorted to have it dwell in us in all wisdom by teaching and correcting each other, with singing. Music and singing are powerful teaching tools, tools that can be used pointlessly without a care as to what is being taught or perhaps to teach that which is evil, or better yet as tools to help teach others about the word of Christ. I personally listen to music a lot of the time and know how addicting it can be, so why not make a point of listening to psalms hymns and spiritual songs, and learning to sing them as well?

Application-I will make a habit of listening to music that is edifying.
